L’Escala is a town in the Alt Empordà region (Girona) with 6,000 inhabitants, which has a great attraction for tourists thanks to the beauty of its beaches, the old town centre and its gastronomic offer.
L’Escala is divided into three areas, each of which has its own interest and charm:
-Riells, where there are shops, bars, restaurants, Riells Beach and the Port.
-Montgó, where you can visit the tower, discover the caves and enjoy the views of the Montgrí Massif.
-The old part of the town, with its small shops, bars and restaurants, as well as the town’s main beach.
If you spend your holiday in L’Escala, you are highly recommended to visit the Ruins of Empúries (Sant Martí d’Empúries), which you can get to on foot as they are just 2 km from the town. We also suggest a trip to the Medes Isles (L’Estartit), the Montgrí Natural Park (Torroella de Montgrí), the Dalí Museum (Figueres), Cadaqués and nearby towns and villages such as Begur, Pals, Peratallada and Besalú with their ancient fortifications.
